Preparation for Longarm Quilting

While similar to preparing for quilting on your sewing machine, quilt preparation for longarm quilting does have some important additional requirements.

By following the steps outlined below you will be helping to ensure that the longarm quilting process is as efficient and cost-effective as possible. To this end, I am available to discuss any questions or concerns you may have regarding the preparation process.

Quilt Top Prep

Please…

  • Press all seams flat

  • Trim any excess threads

  • Indicate the top of your quilt (preferably with a small piece of paper)

  • Ensure all borders are square (no curves, scallops, etc.)

  • Ensure the quilt top is free of any embellishments or the like

Backing Prep

Please…

  • Ensure backing is 10 inches wider and 10 inches longer than the quilt top (5 inches on all sides)

  • Press your backing

* Indicate on the intake form if you would like a different thread color for the backing side of the quilt. There is an extra charge for this.

Batting

  • Batting can be purchased from me or can be supplied by yourself

    • If you choose to supply the batting yourself, please ensure it is at least 8 inches wider and at least 8 inches longer (4 inches on all sides) than your quilt top.

  • If your batting is not of sufficient quality (80/20 or better), I will notify you and utilize 80/20 and add the costs ($8.00 per yard) to the project total.
